From Testnet to Live: A Safe Switch Checklist

From Testnet to Live: A Safe Switch Checklist

The confirmation gates and checks to clear before you trade real money.

Usage

CoTrading defaults to testnet on purpose. Going live is a deliberate decision, not a toggle you flip by accident. This checklist covers what to clear before your first real order.

Before you even consider live

  • You have run the full workflow on testnet enough times that plan review and approval feel routine.
  • You understand every field on a trade plan card and can tell a good rationale from a vague one.
  • You have set your risk limits — daily-loss breaker, consecutive-loss cooldown, per-trade and per-account caps — and you are comfortable with them on a bad day.

No rush

There is no prize for going live early. Time spent on testnet is the cheapest tuition in trading.

The confirmation gates

Switching to live is gated deliberately. CoTrading asks you to pass multiple confirmation steps, not a single click, so live trading is always an explicit, considered action.

The "withdrawals disabled" check

Before a key can go live, CoTrading verifies with the exchange that the key cannot withdraw funds. If withdrawals are enabled on the key, the live switch is blocked. This is a hard requirement, not a suggestion:

  • Read and trade permissions: on
  • Withdrawal permission: off

A key that cannot withdraw means CoTrading cannot move money off your account, even in a worst case.

Separate key slots

Live keys and testnet keys live in separate slots. You cannot accidentally point a live key at what you thought was a testnet session, or vice versa.

A pre-live checklist

  1. Testnet workflow feels routine.
  2. Risk limits set and reviewed.
  3. Live API key created with withdrawals disabled.
  4. Optional IP allowlist configured on the exchange.
  5. Live key placed in the live slot; withdrawals-disabled check passed.
  6. Confirmation gates cleared.
  7. First live trade sized small — treat it as a system test, not a big bet.

After you go live

Nothing about the workflow changes: the AI still only proposes, you still approve every order, and the deterministic risk controls still run locally. The only difference is the money is real — which is exactly why the switch is gated the way it is.

Trading involves risk. Real capital can be lost. CoTrading is a decision-support tool, not investment advice.
